Here and here are two links to color tests. I would love to know how you scored in the comments below!
Art Appreciation is a course designed to introduce the forms, processes, and styles of the visual arts with discussions and writing about artworks. This course aims to develop in the student a basic and practical critical methodology for looking at, analyzing, and discussing works of art. Weekly lectures of artworks are chosen to provoke class discussion and highlight a core set of terms and issues. Multiple readings and actively participatory group discussions will be emphasized.

The first test for me was the hue test and I scored a 2. Apparently, the best score for men is about -2 and the worst is around 2. Where my hue discrimination is low is at 24-23 on the spectrum. The second test, I determined 45 colors from the straight color spectrum. There is actually 39 colors on the list so 6 of them I must be imagining. However, I feel like I was somewhat cheated because I don't have a very good monitor.
ReplyDeleteThe first test I got a a 0. Which is a perfect score, but then it said the best score for women was -9999 so I guess I am average. And the second test I found 38 colors. I read the article and that meant that I have four types of cones (tetrachromats), which only 25 percent of the population is. I disagree with the comment saying tetrachromats are irritated by yellows, since that is my favorite color. My boyfriend did the first test and scored a 2 as well!
ReplyDeleteI got 0 on the first test, and saw 34 colors on the second one. I like that they mentioned the dress in the article because it reminds me of a question I've been wondering: How do the people in this class see the dress? White and gold, or blue and black? (I saw it as blue and brown)
ReplyDeleteOn the first test with the full spectrum I counted 32 colors. The image of the spectrum was in higher resolution on the linked-in website and it was slightly larger. This affected my count which was 38 colors the second time. It says people who see above 35 colors have more cones in their eyes and perceive a wider range of colors.
ReplyDeleteon the second test where you rearrange the hues in the line my score was 22. The colors seemed muted or like pastels to me. It would be interesting to results from a large scale study of boys and girls in there teens and Men and women from ages 20 to 40 and ages 41-90.
Because vision changes over one lifetime.
